Antonio Amador leads Salpointe Catholic to victory over Nogales

Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 12 to 3 on the offensive boards, a fact the Salpointe Catholic Lancers proved on Thursday. They walked away with a 61-52 victory over Nogales. Given Salpointe Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Nogales is ranked 142nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Antonio Amador was a one-man wrecking crew for Salpointe Catholic as he scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Amador has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Isaac Lambe, who scored six points along with five rebounds.

Nogales lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Diego Ortega, who scored 18 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Rafael Vasavilbaso, who scored 13 points.

Salpointe Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Nogales, they now have a losing record at 9-10.

Salpointe Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Canyon del Oro at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. As for Nogales, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Desert View at 7:00 p.m. Desert View has now lost 18 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 25.
