Basketball Recap: Garrett Falls Despite Big Games from Avery Leech and Sarah Depew

Garrett lost against Leo back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Railroaders fell 47-36 to the Lions.

Garrett's loss came despite strong showings from Sarah DePew and Avery Leech. DePew posted 12 points and eight rebounds, while Leech earned nine points. DePew is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last six games she's played.

Leo got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Leah Shappell out in front who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucille Schott, who scored 11 points and eight boards.

Garrett's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Leo, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Garrett will square off against Eastside at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Leo, they will be playing at home against Columbia City at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
