Baseball Game Preview: Mesa Verde Mavericks vs. Sacramento Dragons

The Mesa Verde Mavericks will take on the Sacramento Dragons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.

Mesa Verde is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Vacaville Christian just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost 6-0 to the Falcons. The Mavericks were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the four games prior), but the Falcons' pitchers proved too tough.

Mesa Verde saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Steven Pinola, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Sacramento's offense. They came up short against Rodriguez on Thursday, falling 27-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Dragons in their meetings with the Mustangs: they've now lost four in a row.

Mesa Verde's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-2. As for Sacramento, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.

Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mesa Verde has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .491. However, it's not like Sacramento struggles in that department as they've averaged .458. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
