Basketball Recap: Thomas Heyward Academy Takes a Loss

Thomas Heyward Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were dealt a 67-15 loss at the hands of the Cross Stingrays. If the Rebels were looking for revenge after losing 82-25 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Ryan Mayers was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a triple-double on 28 points, nine boards, and nine steals for Cross. The game was Mayers' third in a row with at least ten points. Reyannah Maldonado was another key player, putting up 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Thomas Heyward Academy's record now sits at 2-9. As for Cross, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season.

Thomas Heyward Academy will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on New Hampstead at 5:00 p.m. on January 30th. As for Cross, they will head out on the road to challenge Holy Trinity Classical Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th.
