Basketball Game Preview: Boulder Creek Jaguars vs. Cesar Chavez Champions

The Boulder Creek Jaguars just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Cesar Chavez Champions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Boulder Creek's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine contests.

On Thursday, Boulder Creek strolled past Mountain Ridge with points to spare, taking the game 78-64. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while the Mountain Lions are ranked 91st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Cesar Chavez on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Browne out of the water with a 72-39 final score. The match marked the Champions' most dominant victory of the season.

Cesar Chavez had a senior duo take command as Gabriel Briones shot 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds and Lex Clontz went 9 of 20 en route to 25 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Briones' evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Drayce Crenshaw, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 13 points and three steals.

Cesar Chavez smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Browne only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.

Boulder Creek has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.9 points per game. As for Cesar Chavez, their win bumped their record up to 8-9.

Everything came up roses for Boulder Creek against Cesar Chavez when the teams last played back in December of 2019, as the squad secured a 76-49 victory. Does Boulder Creek have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cesar Chavez turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
