Softball Recap: Covington Victorious

While Covington's win against Bradford wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Buccs narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Railroaders 13-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Buccs have posted since March 27th.

Whitney Burns spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and seven unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kylie Palsgrove, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 4-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Jayda McClure also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Palsgrove wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Covington lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bradford didn't launched any home runs.

Covington's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Bradford, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Covington will challenge Riverside at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Buccs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. As for Bradford, they will take on Tri-County North at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
