Softball Recap: West Albany Takes a Loss

West Albany dropped their record down to 7-12 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Silverton Foxes, falling 13-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Foxes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-0 back in April.

West Albany saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ellison Smith 2027, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

As for Silverton, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-6. The result was nothing new for the Foxes, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Silverton's side, Mckenzee Petersen made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts Petersen has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Hannah Houts was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Madalynn Ehrens was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, West Albany will square off against Dallas at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Dragons will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Silverton, they will face off against Crescent Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.53 runs per game on average), something the Foxes will no doubt try to take advantage of.
