Basketball Game Preview: Mallard Creek Mavericks vs. West Charlotte Lions

Mallard Creek is 2-8 against West Charlotte since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mallard Creek Mavericks will welcome the West Charlotte Lions at 7:30 p.m.

Last Friday, Mallard Creek was beaten by Chambers 89-61. While the Mavericks didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cougars 23-18 in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for West Charlotte, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They walked away with a 49-42 victory over Seventy-First on Saturday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Lions' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 173rd, while the Falcons are ranked 48th).

West Charlotte's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-7. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Mallard Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.

Mallard Creek beat West Charlotte 51-44 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. Will Mallard Creek repeat their success, or does West Charlotte have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
