Basketball Recap: Speedway Sparkplugs vs. Shelbyville Golden Bears
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 63-20, which was the final score in the Speedway Sparkplugs's tilt against the Shelbyville Golden Bears on Tuesday.
Speedway got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Hayli Clampitt and Madelynn Matelic, who each put up six points.
Shelbyville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Savannah Collins, who shot 75% from the field on her way to 17 points in addition to eight steals and six assists. Those six assists gave Collins a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hannah Baker, who went 7-for-16 to rack up 17 points and eight steals.
Speedway's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2. As for Shelbyville, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Speedway wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 45-27 loss against Cascade on the 20th. As for Shelbyville, they will face off against Southwestern at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
