MaxPreps 2014 Preseason All-American Volleyball Team

Mikaela Foecke, a middle hitter from Iowa, and Katherine Claybaugh, an outside hitter from California, headline the 2014 MaxPreps Preseason Volleyball All-American Team.

Foecke and Claybaugh are no strangers to awards, as Foecke was named MaxPreps 2013 Junior Volleyball Player of the Year and Claybaugh was Sophomore Volleyball Player of the Year a year ago.

Foecke, who averaged more than six kills per set as a junior, led Holy Trinity (Fort Madison, Iowa) to a 46-5 record and the state championship match. The 6-foot-3 senior, who has committed to Nebraska, was also Iowa's Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year.

Claybaugh, a 5-10 junior, led San Ramon Valley (Danville, Calif.) to a 33-4 record. She accounted for more than 40 percent of San Ramon's points.



Claybaugh is one of 12 juniors named to the 2014 Preseason All-American team. St. James Academy (Lenexa, Kan.) has two players named to the squad in juniors Audriana Fitzmorris and Jenna Gray. They played major roles in leading St. James to its sixth-straight state title and a 47-0 season in 2013.

Fitzmorris is a 6-4 middle who hit 67 percent last season and Gray is a 6-foot setter who averaged nearly 11.5 assists per set. She was MaxPreps' 2012 Freshman Volleyball Player of the Year.

The team also features the 2012 MaxPreps Sophomore of the Year Katherine Carlson from Notre Dame Prep (Pontiac, Mich.), who enters her senior season with 2,174 career kills.


MH - Mikaela Foecke, Holy Trinity Catholic (Fort Madison, Iowa), 6-3 Senior
Foecke was named the MaxPreps 2013 Junior Volleyball Player of the Year after averaging 6.08 kills per set while helping her team to a Class 1A state runner-up finish. Foecke was named the Iowa Coaches Association's Player of the Year, 1A Player of the Year and won Iowa's Gatorade State Volleyball Player of the Year honors. She has committed to Nebraska.

MH - Audriana Fitzmorris, St. James Academy (Lenexa, Kan.), 6-4 Junior
Fitzmorris played a major role in St. James Academy running the table (47-0) in 2013 and winning a sixth-straight state title when she hit 67 percent (392 kills), served 95 percent (29 aces) and blocked 152 shots. An all-state selection, she was a member of the U.S. Junior National Team.

MH - Anna Walsh, Heritage (Colleyville, Texas), 6-2 Senior
Walsh was the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas Morning News and SportsDay pick for the 2013 Texas Player of the Year. She finished the season with 600 kills on 1,233 attacks and was a .366 hitter. Defensively, Walsh added 50 blocks and had 422 digs as Heritage went deep in the playoffs and finished 43-6. She has committed to Virginia.



MB – Ronika Stone, Valley Christian (San Jose, Calif.), 6-3 Junior
Stone led Valley Christian to the 2013 Division III state title with 384 kills, 42 aces, 92 blocks and 157 digs.

OH - Katherine Carlson, Notre Dame Prep (Pontiac, Mich.), 5-10 Senior
Carlson finished 2013 with a nation-leading 1,001 kills and led the Fighting Irish to the state Class B title and a 62-2-1 record. Carlson, the MaxPreps Sophomore of the Year in 2012, also recorded 70 aces, 50 blocks, 388 digs and had 455 serve receptions. She will attend Valparaiso.

OH - Beth Prince, Avon (Ind.), 6-3 Senior
A three-time all-state player, Prince led Avon (37-3) to another state 4A title with 447 kills, 61 blocks and 154 digs. In her three varsity seasons, Avon has a 110-9 won-loss record. She has committed to Illinois.

OH - Courtney Furlong, Oviedo (Fla.), 6-1 Senior
Behind Furlong's 600 kills, 318 digs, 41 aces and 55 blocks, the Lions won Florida's 7A state title a year ago. She was named to the Orlando Sentinel's All-Central Volleyball Team. She has committed to South Carolina.

OH - Carly Skjodt, Carmel (Ind.), 6-0 Senior
Skjodt led Carmel in 2013 to a 37-2 record and the state final. She recorded 565 kills (5.6 average), 62 blocks, 448 digs and 279 serves. Skjodt has committed to Michigan.

OH - Haley DeSales, La Salle (Pasadena, Calif.), 6-0 Senior
DeSales led La Salle last season to a 32-6 season with 634 kills (5.4 average), 55 aces, 89 blocks and 438 digs. She was honored as the area's top volleyball player for the second year in a row. DeSales has committed to Washington State.



OH - Katie Kampen, Mt. Carmel (New Orleans), 5-11 Senior
Kampen recorded 598 kills, 478 digs, 85 blocks and 76 service aces while posting a hitting percentage of .400 and a kill percentage of .480 in 2013, leading the Cubs (44-4) to the 2013 D-1 state championship match. She was her state's Gatorade POY winner.

OH - Briana Weber, Dike-New Hartford (Dike, Iowa), 5-10 Senior
Weber was Iowa's 2A Player of the Year for the third-straight year last fall after leading her team to the 2A title. Weber led the team with 4.5 kills per set while hitting .420. She also served 96 percent with 46 aces and led the Wolverines with 2.54 digs per set. She has committed to Northern Iowa.

OH - Ryann DeJarld, Mother McAuley (Chicago), 5-10 Senior
DeJarld led the Macs to a 40-2 record and the large school state title a year ago. She was all-GCAC and named to the Chicago SunTimes All Area team. She was the top player on the Nation's No. 8 team with 197 kills, 265 digs and 72 aces. She has committed to Notre Dame.

OH - Taylor Lord, Musselman (Inwood, W. Va.), 5-9 Senior
Lord led Musselman to a 44-6 record and the 2013 3A state championship. She was also the Gatorade State Player of the Year as named by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association. Lord amassed 577 kills, compiling a .329 hitting percentage and .458 kill percentage to go along with 471 serve receptions, 315 digs, 31 service aces and 27 blocks. She has committed to West Virginia.

OH - Alexa Smith, Lewis-Palmer (Monument, Colo.), 6-1 Senior
Smith led Lewis-Palmer to a 27-2 record and the 2013 4A state title with a kill average of 5.1, 50 aces, 31 blocks and 236 digs. She is a member of the U.S. Junior Women's National team and has committed to Purdue.

OH - Molly Haggerty, St. Francis (Wheaton, Ill.), 6-0 Junior
Haggerty was named Mysuburban.life Media Group's 2013 All-Area Player of the Year and was a first team all state choice. She led the Spartans to a state title and 39-3 record. She had 66 blocks and 309 kills. St. Francis finished 14th in the final Xcellent 25. She is a member of the U.S. Junior Women's Team.



OH - Quinn Spieker, Burlington (Wis.), 6-3 Junior
Behind the all-around play of Spieker, Burlington was 44-2 and won the Wisconsin D-1 title for the second-straight year. She finished 2013 with 557 kills, 364 digs, 35 solo blocks, 47 aces and 484 serve receptions.

OH - Khalia Lanier, Xavier College Prep (Phoenix), 6-2 Junior
Named Arizona's Large School Player of the Year last fall, Lanier recorded 378 kills and 193 digs in leading the team to the state title. She has committed to USC.

OH - Katherine Claybaugh, San Ramon Valley (Danville, Calif.), 5-10 Junior
Claybaugh had 646 kills as a sophomore in leading the Wolves to a 33-4 record. Despite being the offensive focus, she scored more than 700 points, accounting for a little better than 40 percent of the Wolves' offense. Claybaugh was selected as the Bay Area News Group's 2013 East Bay Player of the Year.

S - Kiley Lingenfelter, New Castle (Ind.), 5-6 Senior
In 103 sets, Lingenfelter totaled 1,082 assists (10.5 average) and had 116 digs as New Castle won 28 of 32 matches a year ago.

S - Kylie Pickrell, Coppell (Texas), 5-11 Senior
In 2013, Pickrell led Coppell to a 42-5 record with 99 kills, 43 aces (93 percent serving), 47 blocks, 10.6 assists per match (1,404 total) and 410 digs. She has committed to Arizona State.

S - Samantha Seliger-Swenson, Hopkins (Minnetonka, Minn.), 6-0 Senior
Named all-state and all-metro first team for the second year in row, Seliger-Swenson had 1,123 assists, 255 digs and 194 kills last season. She has committed to Minnesota.



S - Jenna Gray, St. James Academy (Lenexa, Kan.), 5-11 Junior
Gray, MaxPreps' 2012 Freshman Player of the Year, led the Thunder to their sixth-straight state title and set the table with 11.4 assists per set (1,116 during St. James' 47-0 season). She recorded 75 kills, served 96 percent, blocked 59 shots and recorded 226 digs as St. James Academy lost just one set in 2013 (97 wins).

S - Celeste Fitzgerald, Walton (Marietta, Ga.), 5-9 Junior
Fitzgerald led Walton to a 45-5 record and the 2013 6A state title with 90 aces, 41 blocks, 381 digs and 1,341 assists.

S - Cali Thompson, Coronado (Henderson, Nev.), 5-10 Junior
Thompson led Coronado to the state's large school title and a 32-6 record with 108 aces, 52 blocks and 997 assists. She was named the Sunrise Region's 2013 Player of the Year.

L - Riley Sents, Grundy Center (Iowa), 5-5 Senior
As a junior, Sents had 818 digs and was a 95 percent server and committed just 14 errors on 610 serve receptions. With Sents leading the defense, Grundy reached the state 2A quarterfinals. She has committed to Missouri.

L - Amber MacDonald, Blessed Trinity (Roswell, Ga.), 5-4 Senior
MacDonald led the Titans to the 2013 state final and a 59-win season with 787 digs, 94 aces (624 serves) and had 940 serve receptions. She has committed to Wisconsin.

A-A - Rachel Holthaus, Winona (Mo.), 6-0 Senior
Holthaus led Winona to another 30-win season a year ago with 560 kills, 230 digs and 343 assists in 86 sets. Her hitting percentage was .530 and she blocked 104 shots as well as serving at a 96 percent mark.



A-A - Alyssa Enneking, Clear Falls (League City, Texas), 5-11 Senior
Enneking led Clear Falls to a 40-7 record and the 2013 state 5A semifinals. She was one of the state's best hitters with 900 kills, 598 digs, 50 blocks and 566 serve receptions. She will play at Oklahoma.

A-A- Jordyn Poulter, Eaglecrest (Centennial, Colo.), 6-0 Senior
A member of the USA Women's Junior Team, Poulter was all over the court last season – 167 kills (57 percent), 57 aces (97.4 percent), 87 blocks, 203 digs and 521 assists (7.3 per match). She has committed to Illinois.

A-A - Gia Milana, Romeo (Mich.), 6-2 Junior
Milana led Romeo to the 2013 state tournament and a 44-8 record with 728 kills, 100 aces, 78 blocks, 304 digs and 473 serve receptions. She was named all-state and has committed to Maryland.

A-A - Kylie Miller, Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.), 5-11 Junior
The Cougars went 24-7 last fall as Miller did a lot of everything – 716 assists, 230 kills, 92 aces and 232 digs. Miller was named to the CIF All-Southern Section first team. She has committed to UCLA.
