Softball Recap: South Carroll Cavaliers vs. Catoctin Cougars

South Carroll had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 14-5 to make it four. They fell 6-1 to the Catoctin Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-0 back in April.

As for Catoctin, the victory was the 15th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-1-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games.

For Catoctin's part, Taylor Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Smith has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Kelsey Roberts was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That stolen base was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Bralyn West, who went 2-for-4 with one home run.

As of now, neither South Carroll nor Catoctin have any future games scheduled.
