Baseball Recap: Boylan Catholic Sets Scoring Season-High Against Rockford East

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Boylan Catholic). They were the clear victors by a 22-2 margin over the Rockford East E-Rabs on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Titans considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Talan Welter looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, Gavin Pigott was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Boylan Catholic is 2-1 when Pigott posts two or more runs, but 8-13-1 otherwise. Ryder McCauley was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Boylan Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rockford East only posted an OBP of .286.

Boylan Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-14-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Rockford East, they dropped their record down to 0-9 with the loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Boylan Catholic will have a chance to go back-to-back against the E-Rabs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
