Basketball Recap: St. Frances Academy Panthers vs. Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers
In what's become a running theme this season, the St. Frances Academy Panthers gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Archbishop Spalding 57-28 on the road. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as St. Frances Academy just coasted through the last quarter.
St. Frances Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jacara Spencer out in front who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Spencer has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Mone't Edwards, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
Archbishop Spalding's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Whitley Watkins, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. Watkins hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Eden Berry, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
St. Frances Academy is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Archbishop Spalding, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-8.
St. Frances Academy will head out on the road to square off against the Reds at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Roland Park Country will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while the Panthers are ranked 14th). As for Archbishop Spalding, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. McDonogh is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
