Basketball Recap: Canistota Comes Up Short

Canistota was the 48-47 winner over Viborg/Hurley when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Canistota Hawks fell 56-44 to the Viborg/Hurley Cougars on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while the Cougars are ranked fourth).

Canistota dropped their record down to 1-14 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Viborg/Hurley, the victory was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Canistota will face off against Sioux Falls Lutheran at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Canistota is facing Sioux Falls Lutheran at the right time seeing as Sioux Falls Lutheran is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Viborg/Hurley, they will take on Freeman Academy/Marion at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Viborg/Hurley will also cruise into their next game with the timing on their side: Freeman Academy/Marion will have lost three straight heading into Friday's matchup.
