Basketball Game Preview: Halifax County Comets vs. Bassett Bengals

The Halifax County Comets will face off against the Bassett Bengals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Halifax County's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Bassett has been banged up by nine consecutive losses on the road.

Last Monday, Halifax County strolled past Magna Vista with points to spare, taking the game 60-41. Given the Comets' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 138th, while the Warriors are ranked 339th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Bassett came up short against Mecklenburg County on Monday, falling 61-41.

Halifax County will have to keep a close watch on David Cook and Zyreak Manns, a pair of players who had a big impact on Bassett's prior game. Cook posted 13 points, while Manns earned 12 points.

Halifax County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.6 points over those games. As for Bassett, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-15.
