Basketball Recap: Jurupa Valley Takes a Loss

Jurupa Valley played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 74-52 to the Norte Vista Braves. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1037th, while the Braves are ranked 226th).

Norte Vista found their leader in sophomore Carter Fulton, who went 10 for 21 en route to 24 points and five assists. Fulton's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Sam Ponoran, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 14 points and five boards.

Jurupa Valley is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-15. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points per game. As for Norte Vista, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-6.

Jurupa Valley will head out on the road to challenge Rubidoux at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Jurupa Valley is facing Rubidoux at the right time seeing as Rubidoux is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Norte Vista, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Patriot at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Norte Vista's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matches.
