Basketball Recap: Thomas MacLaren School Takes a Loss

After flying high against Rocky Ford last Saturday, Thomas MacLaren School came back down to earth. The Thomas MacLaren School Highlanders had to suffer through a 73-40 loss at the hands of the Fountain Valley Danes. The Highlanders were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-14.

Thomas MacLaren School's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Angelo Tiggett, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 18 points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Tiggett a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (67%). Another player making a difference was Caiden Zoerb-Orta, who posted seven points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Thomas MacLaren School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Fountain Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nick Prantl led the charge by putting up 17 points. Jaden Lopez-Hardy was another key player, scoring 15 points.

Thomas MacLaren School's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Fountain Valley, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-5.

Looking ahead, Thomas MacLaren School will challenge Golden View Classical Academy at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Golden View Classical Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.3 points per game this season. As for Fountain Valley, they will take on Calhan at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th.
