Softball Game Preview: Chesapeake Panthers vs. Minford Falcons

The Chesapeake Panthers will head out to take on the Minford Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chesapeake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Chesapeake took a 15-run loss the last time they faced off against Fairland, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Panthers skirted past the Dragons 9-8. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

Haylee Lafon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over eight innings pitched. Lafon was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, Chesapeake let Kaydence Easthom and Angel Hundley run wild. Easthom scored two runs and stole two bases, while Hundley scored two runs while going 1-for-4. Zoe Jones also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Minford was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They lost 7-1 to South Webster.

Minford's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Chesapeake, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-6.

Chesapeake might still be hurting after the 20-6 defeat they got from Minford in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
