Baseball Game Preview: Overton Wolverines vs. Southwind Jaguars

The Overton Wolverines will head out to challenge the Southwind Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Overton took a 17-run loss the last time they faced off against Kirby, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wolverines skirted past the Cougars 9-7. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wolverines.

Meanwhile, Southwind entered their tilt with Middle College on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Bulldogs.

Stephen Simmons was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last nine games he's played. Another player making a difference was Rydell Meads, who scored a run and stole two bases.

Overton's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.8 runs. As for Southwind, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5.

Overton came up short against Southwind in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 11-7. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
