Basketball Recap: Peyton Kelleher Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Valley Regional

After losing to Valley Regional the last time they met, Cromwell decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Cromwell Panthers blew past the Valley Regional Warriors 48-28 on Monday. The Panthers pushed the score to 40-17 by the end of the third, a deficit the Warriors cut but never quite recovered from.

Cromwell's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Peyton Kelleher led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine boards. Kelleher is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Sadie Rau was another key player, going 5 for 10 on her way to 13 points.

Cromwell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Cromwell's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Valley Regional, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cromwell will head out to face off against North Branford at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Valley Regional, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Hale Ray at 7:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025.
