Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) and St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) look to be on a collision course for a 1 vs. 2 showdown on Sept. 14 in the Trinity League vs. the USA showcase.

The Monarchs cruised to a 42-12 season opening win against a very good Centennial (Corona, Calif.) team as Bryce Young threw for three scores and the defense held the Huskies scoreless through the first three quarters.

Meanwhile, St. Frances Academy dominated Central (Miami) in South Florida and won 49-13 as 2020 Michigan commit Blake Corum accounted for nearly 200 yards of total offense and four scores. The defense was lights out led by Chris Braswell, Demon Clowney, Luke Hill, Aaron Willis and Jordan Toles.

No. 3 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) beat DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) 35-7 on national television as DJ Uiagalelei finished the night with over 300 yards passing and two scores.

St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) moved up one spot to No. 9 after beating De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) 24-14 for the second straight time.

Some other notable teams who moved up this week after impressive season opening wins were Lakeland (Fla.), Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), Carol City (Miami) and Marietta (Ga.). The new team in the rankings is the back-to-back 6A state champs, Northwestern (Miami). The Bulls shutout the defending 5A state champs Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) 32-0 to begin the 2019 campaign.
