Basketball Recap: Johansen Continues Road Dominance on Wednesday

Johansen won the last time they faced Lathrop and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Johansen Vikings came out on top against the Lathrop Spartans by a score of 61-51. Winning may never get old, but the Vikings sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Johansen got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Wilbert Gaxiola out in front who posted 24 points. The match was Gaxiola's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ivan Martinez, who earned 17 points.

Lathrop's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryan Gamboa, who put up 13 points. Gamboa is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Joseph Perkins was another key player, going 8 of 15 en route to 16 points and six boards.

Johansen's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.7 points per game. As for Lathrop, they moved to 7-10 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Johansen will head out to face off against Central Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Central Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.6 points per game this season. As for Lathrop, they are taking a road trip to take on Livingston at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lathrop is facing Livingston at the right time seeing as Livingston is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
