Basketball Recap: West Cabarrus Drops Season-High Score on West Iredell

West Cabarrus scored the most points they've had this season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of the West Iredell Warriors by a score of 75-72. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wolverines have suffered since November 16th.

West Iredell was led to victory by Jordan Patterson and Jermaine Cornelius. Patterson went 7 of 13 en route to 19 points along with eight boards and three steals, while Cornelius went 6 of 7 on his way to 15 points. Patterson's afternoon made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of David Bunton, who posted nine points.

West Cabarrus has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points per game. As for West Iredell, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.

West Cabarrus will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Lake Norman at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lake Norman has nine straight wins, West Cabarrus has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court. As for West Iredell, they will welcome Foard at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in West Iredell's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while Foard has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
