Fans got a thrill when Matthew Merino and Myles Balderas connected against Nixon. The connection was good for 99 yards, the longest such play in 4A Region IV District 31 this season.
Miller scaled the state rankings by moving to 866 from 923 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Buccaneers were able to move up by beating Moody 30-21.
Ray's dynamic duo of Merino and Balderas proved to be unstoppable against the Mustangs, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Merino threw for 212 yards and 2 touchdowns and Balderas had 99 yards receiving. Ben Brooks helped Ray's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 90 yards.
Joseph Cantu was a force in the backfield as Alice topped Cigarroa.
He was 5-8 with 0 interceptions.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Daniel Sanchez. The Martin star has 16 catches for 384 yards.
The Coyotes are currently in fourth, while the Texans are in first.
There should be lots of points scored when Alice and Ray face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Chris Soza's team comes in having scored 206 this season, while Cody Simper's team has scored 215. The Coyotes scored 58 points last week as they beat the Toros.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, the Texans beat Nixon 42-7. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
