Baseball Game Preview: Trona Tornadoes vs. Boron Bobcats

Trona is 0-3 against Boron since February of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Tornadoes will head out on the road to face off against the Bobcats at 3:15 p.m.

Trona came up short against Non Varsity Opponent on Thursday, falling 16-2.

Johnny Meraz was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with four stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jon Gammett, who earned one RBI and two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Boron hadn't done well against Eastside recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Bobcats were the clear victors by a 17-5 margin over the Lions. With that win, the Bobcats brought their scoring average up to 8.8 runs per game.

Jalen York was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. York was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Malachi Rucker, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. Geordyn Rundblade also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Boron always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory got Boron back to even at 2-2. As for Trona, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Trona suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Boron in their previous meeting back in May of 2022. Can the Tornadoes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
