Baseball Game Preview: Quapaw Wildcats vs. Jay Bulldogs

The Quapaw Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Jay Bulldogs at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Quapaw has given up an average of 7.3 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Thursday, Quapaw came up short against Afton and fell 18-15. Even though they lost, the Wildcats' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.1 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Jace Gregory made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and fired off three runs, three doubles, and three RBI while going 4-for-5. He is becoming a predictor of Quapaw's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-3 (and 4-12 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Koronis, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Jay was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 11-1 to Vinita.

Jay saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cody Whitlock, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one stolen base. Kenan Garcia also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Quapaw and nudges their season record down to 11-15. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Jay, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Quapaw has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Jay struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Quapaw came up short against Jay in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, falling 10-5. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
