Basketball Recap: Tikigaq Comes Up Short

Tikigaq lost against Fort Yukon last Thursday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Tikigaq Harpooners took a 63-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fort Yukon Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Harpooners can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while the Eagles are ranked ninth).

Fort Yukon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kylee Carroll, who posted 21 points. Another player making a difference was Nellie Ward, who scored 16 points.

Tikigaq's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Fort Yukon, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.

Tikigaq has already played their next contest, a 74-68 loss against Napaaqtugmiut on the 13th. As for Fort Yukon, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 38-28 victory against Bristol Bay on the 7th.
