Baseball Game Preview: La Jolla Vikings vs. Brawley Wildcats

The La Jolla Vikings will take on the Brawley Wildcats in a tournament on Wednesday. The last five games La Jolla has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

La Jolla took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Rocky Mountain 3-2.

Abel Delgadillo tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits.

On the hitting side, La Jolla's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Harper Lane, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Lane has posted since back in March of 2024. Another was Carter Strauss, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Brawley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of San Pasqual.

Rane Reeves made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Tate Preece, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

La Jolla's win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Brawley, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.

La Jolla was able to grind out a solid victory over Brawley when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 6-3. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
