Baseball Recap: Eastern Gets the Win

Eastern proved they can win big on Monday (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Central Hardin Bruins 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since April 21st.

Hunter Hvidhyld looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, Donovan Webber and DaShawn Tharpe did most of the damage at the plate: Webber went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI, while Tharpe went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two doubles gave Webber a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Collier, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Eastern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.6.

Eastern pushed their record up to 14-18 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Central Hardin, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-15.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Eastern will square off against North Bullitt at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Central Hardin, they will take on Oldham County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
