Volleyball Recap: New Hanover Comes Up Short

If New Hanover was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Whiteville on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats lost 3-0 to the New Bern Bears on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 3-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: New Bern scored at least 17 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-17, 25-21.

Among those leading the charge was Kailyn Shultz, who had 14 digs and two aces. That's the most aces she has posted since back in October of 2024.

New Hanover's defeat was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-1. As for New Bern, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Looking ahead, New Hanover will be playing at home against Coastal Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for New Bern, they are taking a road trip to challenge Havelock at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
