Preview: Ashland Blue Jays vs. Otis-Bison Cougars
The Ashland Blue Jays will be playing at home against the Otis-Bison Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Ashland has three straight wins, the Cougars have seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Ashland beat the Tigers 26-21.
Ashland's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Biannca Ceniceros, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals. Ceniceros has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily McPhail, who scored five points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Otis-Bison was the victim of a rough 43-22 defeat at the hands of the Oilers on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Otis-Bison can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 297th, while the Oilers are ranked 87th).
Ashland's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-8. As for Otis-Bison, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
Ashland strolled past the Cougars when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a score of 43-26. Does Ashland have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
