Basketball Game Preview: Carlsbad Lancers vs. Cathedral Catholic Dons

The Carlsbad Lancers will square off against the Cathedral Catholic Dons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carlsbad knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 matchups -- so hopefully Cathedral Catholic likes a good challenge.

Carlsbad is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with a 71-64 win over Santa Fe Christian. The Lancers haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Cathedral Catholic entered their tilt with San Marcos on Friday with three consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 73-68 W against the Knights.

The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Patrick O'Brien and Jalen Williams. O'Brien had a great game and dropped a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Meanwhile, Williams was balling out in the loss, going 7-for-10 from beyond the arc on his way to 24 points.

Carlsbad pushed their record up to 24-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.0 points over those games. As for Cathedral Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 20-9.

Everything came up roses for Carlsbad against Cathedral Catholic in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 104-64 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Carlsbad since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
