Baseball Recap: Homer Takes Down Ranked Kodiak

Homer faced Kodiak in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Mariners walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Bears. This was payback for the Mariners, who suffered a 2-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Clyde Clemens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. He also tossed two walks, which is notable because Homer is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 3-4-1 otherwise.

At the plate, Benjamin Engebretsen was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jayden Sims, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Homer and bumps their season record up to 6-4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Kodiak, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6-1.

Homer will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bears: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
