Recap: Schlarman Hilltoppers vs. Milford Bearcats
If the Schlarman Hilltoppers were feeling good off their 48-28 takedown of First Baptist Christian last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Schlarman took a 38-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of Milford on Wednesday. Schlarman has not had much luck with Milford recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Schlarman's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Devyn Gose, who scored two points along with six rebounds and four steals. It was the first time this season that Gose grabbed two or more steals. Layla Briggs was another key contributor, scoring four points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Milford's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hunter Mowrey led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. Mowrey has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kami Muehling, who scored seven points along with eight steals.
Schlarman's loss dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Milford, the victory got them back to even at 13-13.
Schlarman's road trip will continue as they head out to face Westville at 6:00 p.m. on February 1st. Schlarman is facing Westville at the right time seeing as Westville is stuck on a 17-game losing streak. As for Milford, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Iroquois West at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Milford focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Wednesday.
