Basketball Game Preview: Dyersburg Trojans vs. South Gibson Hornets

Dyersburg and South Gibson are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2018, but not for long. The Dyersburg Trojans will challenge the South Gibson Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Dyersburg will head into Tuesday's game hoping to keep the good times rolling: they proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 27) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Dyer County 63-60. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Choctaws are ranked 287th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, South Gibson waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They managed a 57-53 win over the Pioneers.

Dyersburg has also been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.9 points per game. As for South Gibson, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-9.

Dyersburg strolled past South Gibson in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a score of 73-54. The rematch might be a little tougher for Dyersburg since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
