Volleyball Recap: Castilleja Comes Up Short at Home Against Notre Dame

Castilleja unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Notre Dame Regents by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The Gators were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Regents apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2022.

Castilleja took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 17-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21, 15-13.

Emily Shen paced Castilleja's offense, picking up 14 kills. Shen got some help from Amelie Bellemans and her 30 assists. Shen also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Graciela Navarro, racking up four apiece.

The victory got Notre Dame back to even at 1-1.

Looking ahead, Castilleja will welcome Mission San Jose at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Gators surely won't give up without a fight. As for Notre Dame, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-2 victory against Pioneer on the 4th.
