Covington took a 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against South Gibson, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Chargers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hornets on Friday, sneaking past 4-2. The victory was nothing new for the Chargers as they're now sitting on three straight.
Kinslee Hamm made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madi Hamm, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Covington pushed their record up to 15-12-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for South Gibson, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-8.
