Softball Recap: Canyon Sets Scoring Season-High Against Burbank

Canyon's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Burbank Bulldogs as the Canyon Cowboys made off with a 9-1 win. The Cowboys' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Jessica Carr made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run. She also scored a run, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lainey Rafkin, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Karina Montero was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

Canyon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Burbank only managed two hits.

The victory snapped Canyon's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-4 record. As for Burbank, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4-1 record this season.

Canyon will be taking part in a tournament against Birmingham at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Burbank, they are taking a road trip to square off against Hart at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
