Basketball Recap: Austin Sickler's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Brighton over Westminster

Brighton fought the good fight in their overtime match against Westminster on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 63-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Westminster Wolves. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wolves earlier this season, when they won 60-38.

Brighton lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Austin Sickler, who posted 16 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Burke, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards.

Westminster's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elyas Romero, who put up ten points along with seven steals and six assists. The dominant performance gave Romero a new career-high in steals. Michael Davidson was another key player, going 5-for-9 on his way to 11 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds.

Brighton's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-9. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points over those games. As for Westminster, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-11 record this season.

Brighton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 74-64 victory against Lakewood on the 17th. As for Westminster, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 67-54 loss against Boulder on the 18th.
