Basketball Game Preview: Montrose Red Hawks vs. Pagosa Springs Pirates + How To Watch

The Montrose Red Hawks will be taking part in a tournament against the Pagosa Springs Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Montrose managed to slip by Forge Christian the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Red Hawks came up short against the Fury on Saturday, falling 61-41. While losing is never fun, the Red Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Fury are ranked 18th).

Montrose's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Cache Oberg, who shot 55% from the field on his way to 13 points along with eight boards and four blocks, and Lane Pressler, who posted ten points. Oberg is on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games he's played.

Meanwhile, Pagosa Springs won against Gunnison last Saturday with 73 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Saturday. The Pirates blew past Salida 73-52. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

Montrose has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. As for Pagosa Springs, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Montrose strolled past Pagosa Springs in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 by a score of 53-35. Do the Red Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
