Football Recap: Winchester Community Skates Past Cambridge City Lincoln with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Winchester Community). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Cambridge City Lincoln Golden Eagles 63-8. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Golden Falcons' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 150th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 314th).

Winchester Community got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Caleb Hummel out in front who rushed for 68 yards and two TDs, and also threw for 41 yards and one touchdown. Jose Vasquez was another key rusher, rushing for 110 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Winchester Community was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 343 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Winchester Community didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ian Hardwick and Aidan Weatherhead. Hardwick got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

The win (which was Winchester Community's fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.4 points over those games. As for Cambridge City Lincoln, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Coming up, Winchester Community will head out to square off against Union City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Falcons will be up against the Indians' rather soft defense (which has allowed 43.13 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Cambridge City Lincoln, they will host Wes-Del at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
