The Haverling Rams will take on the Keshequa Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Haverling is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Haverling needed a bit of extra time to put away Dansville. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Mustangs 10-8. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Rams considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Haverling let Dante Nealey and Lukas Mills-Travis run wild. Nealey scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Mills-Travis went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those two hits gave Mills-Travis a new career-high. Corey Hoad also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Keshequa strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past Caledonia-Mumford 14-6. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Nolan Therrien made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Therrien was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Aiden Howe was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-6. Another player making a difference was Brady Wood, who scored three runs while going 4-for-5.
Keshequa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .574. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Caledonia-Mumford only posted an OBP of .265.
Keshequa pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.0 runs this season. As for Haverling, their record is now 3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Haverling has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Keshequa struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 12.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Haverling took their victory against Keshequa when the teams last played back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
