Basketball Recap: Monterey Victorious

Monterey was handed a 37-point defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Claiborne Bulldogs 49-47.

Vinnie Walker was the offensive standout of the matchup as he shot 50% from the field to rack up 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Those 17 points gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tanner Brown, who posted 14 points.

The victory got Monterey back to even at 1-1. As for Claiborne, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Monterey didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 87-40 loss against Scott on the 22nd. As for Claiborne, they will be taking part in a tournament against Knoxville A at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Ambassadors have now posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
