Baseball Recap: Newport Takes a Loss

Newport was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 40th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 10-1 to the Covington Latin Trojans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 24-6 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Newport saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Geremy Vilchez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Newport's defeat dropped their record down to 0-15. As for Covington Latin, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Coincidentally, Newport and Covington Latin will both be playing Heritage Academy the next time they take the field. The Wildcats will host the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Trojans will host them at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
