Softball Recap: Varina Comes Up Short

Varina was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 13-4 to the Freeman Mavericks.

Aniya Newton was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run. Julia Anderson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Varina's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Freeman, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6.

Varina wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 21-16 win against Chancellor on the 24th. As for Freeman, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 20-4 defeat against Mechanicsville on the 29th.
