Softball Recap: Show Low Wins Going Away Against Chinle

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Show Low and Chinle, and Show Low kept the tradition alive. Show Low blew past Chinle 18-1 on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won nine in a row.

Aspyn Clark made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Show Low got a massive performance out of Gracie Umphress, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was Umphress' first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ari Rivera, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Show Low lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Show Low's record now sits at 7-2. As for Chinle, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-5.

Show Low has already played their next matchup, a 9-0 win against Sunnyslope on the 21st. As for Chinle, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 13-5 victory against Tuba City on the 24th.
