Baseball Game Preview: Vandalia Vandals vs. Carlinville Cavaliers

Vandalia has gone 7-2 against Carlinville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Vandals will challenge the Cavaliers at 4:30 p.m. Vandalia will be strutting in after a victory while Carlinville will be coming in after a defeat.

Vandalia took a nine-run loss the last time they faced off against Pana, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Vandals came out on top in a nail-biter against the Panthers on Tuesday, sneaking past 4-3. The win was some much needed relief for the Vandals as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Kohnor Depew was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-2. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Vandalia lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Carlinville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Staunton.

Carlinville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Drew Quarton, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. That run was Quarton's first of the season.

Vandalia's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 7-11. As for Carlinville, their loss dropped their record down to 3-12.

Everything went Vandalia's way against Carlinville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Vandalia made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vandals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
