Preview: Hough Huskies vs. North Mecklenburg Vikings
Hough is on a four-game streak of home wins, while North Mecklenburg is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Hough Huskies will take on the North Mecklenburg Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Hough posted their biggest win since December 15, 2023 on Friday. They really took it to Hopewell for the full four quarters, racking up a 63-11 victory at home. With Hough ahead 43-5 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Hough can attribute much of their success to Ka'Leiya Jones, who scored 12 points along with three steals, and Chloe Galombeck, who scored 13 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jones has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Sophia Zoerb, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, North Mecklenburg was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past West Charlotte 84-22 on the road. Given North Mecklenburg's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while West Charlotte is ranked 298th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hough has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for North Mecklenburg, their win bumped their record up to 14-3.
Hough might still be hurting after the 70-44 defeat they got from North Mecklenburg in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of North Mecklenburg's Lenise Joseph, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and four blocks. Now that Hough knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
