Softball Recap: Penobscot Valley Has No Trouble Against Deer Isle-Stonington

Penobscot Valley put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners a 19-0 shutout. That 19 run margin sets a new team best for the Howlers this season.

Charlotte Dube made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Dube was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Shay Ireland was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with six RBI, one run, and one double. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ellie Austin, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and two RBI.

Penobscot Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Deer Isle-Stonington only managed one hit.

Penobscot Valley's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 15.3 runs this season. As for Deer Isle-Stonington, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Penobscot Valley will face off against Penquis Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Howlers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Deer Isle-Stonington, they will square off against Bangor Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
