Softball Recap: Bishop O'connell Beats Our Lady of Good Counsel for Their 26th Straight Win

Bishop O'Connell put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Our Lady of Good Counsel Falcons. That's two games straight that the Knights have won by exactly 14 runs.

Bri Lencz and Ella Fletcher were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Lencz struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Fletcher tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time she hasn't allowed a single hit since back in May of 2024. At bat, Lencz went 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Fletcher scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most RBI Lencz has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, MJ Melvin was a standout: she scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Callie Lissenden was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base.

Bishop O'Connell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Our Lady of Good Counsel only posted an OBP of .200.

Bishop O'Connell's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Our Lady of Good Counsel, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Coming up, Bishop O'Connell will take on Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association in a tournament on Saturday. Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Bishop O'Connell surely won't give up without a fight. As for Our Lady of Good Counsel, they are taking a road trip to take on Chopticon at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
